We became a dealer for
Prospeed RS 683 late last year... We liked it being a high quality
alternative to
Castrol SRF. Here is the latest news that Mike
Wachholz has sent us: There has been much going on.
Prospeed has been at Rolex 24 testing & race, ALMS winter testing,
IndyCar testing,
Sebring 12,
IndyCar St Pete and to
IndyCar Barber
Motorsports Park. In the process many teams have been converting over to RS683 as they have seen (felt?) the difference in braking performance. In fact not one single team in ANY series that has tested RS683 has had a less than perfect experience and consequently has switched over to RS683. Here is a list of teams that have tested and switched followed by the series they are in:
- K-PAX Racing – World Challenge (only the Touring Car class Volvo C30’s)
- A.J. Foyt Racing – IndyCar (when I spoke with Craig Baranouski, Chief Engineer, he said, “…it was the best pedal we’ve ever had”
- Dreyer & Reinbold Racing – IndyCar
- Panther Racing – IndyCar
- Compass360 – Grand AM Continental Tire Challenge (2010 season ST class champions)
- BGB Motorsports - Grand AM Continental Tire Challenge GS class
- AFS Racing – IndyCar
- Brimtek Racing – World Challenge TC (qualified on pole in St. Pete and finished 2nd in first race and 1st in 2nd race in class)
- Shea Racing – World Challenge TC
- BimmerWorld – Grand AM Continental Tire Challenge (2 cars in GS and 2 cars in ST)
- Bullet Racing – Grand AM Rolex 24 GT
- JDX Racing – ALMS GTC
- And I’m probably forgetting several more….
Additionally there are many other teams currently testing or scheduled to test in the very near future. For example
IndyCar 2010 Championship winning team, Target Chip
Ganassi tested at Barber in March. I spoke with Julian Robertson, Engineering Manager, at testing and learned they tested in Scott Dixon’s car with positive results. (Full disclosure)
Ganassi has not switched yet as Barber is not hard on brakes and they want to test again on a hard braking track. All that said, Monday evening of
IndyCar testing @ Barber, as I entered the hotel at about 10 PM I saw Dario
Franchitti grabbing some things from the little courtesy store in the hotel. He was exiting the store into the hallway right as I came up. I said “Hello” and he remembered me from Rolex 24 Testing as the “Brake Fluid Guy” (In all honesty he
didn’t recall my name but he did recall meeting and VERY briefly talking about brake pedal feel) I took the opportunity to tell him
Ganassi was testing RS683 in Dixon’s car and Dario responded with (as this happened a month ago it’s not a real, accurate quote but this is certainly the gist of it) “great! It must be good as this is the first time Dixie’s not
bitchin’ about the brakes.” Life is good...
